G. Michael Stewart

Firm partner Michael Stewart is a member of our asbestos and benzene litigation teams. Before joining the Simmons firm, Mike was a member of the United States Marine Corps from 1984 to 1988. Today he dedicates the majority of his legal practice to representing victims of mesothelioma, a rare and aggressive cancer caused by exposure to asbestos. 

In 1995, Mike earned his Juris Doctorate from DePaul University College of Law in Chicago, Illinois, with a health law certificate. He is a graduate of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, where he earned his undergraduate degree in political science.

Mike worked as an assistant state's attorney in the Cook County State Attorney’s Office from 1995 to 1998 and then became an associate attorney for Rekowski & Associates. He also worked as an attorney for Madison County Public Defender from 1999 to 2004.

In addition to his responsibilities at the Simmons firm, Mike also works for the Madison County State Attorney's Office as assistant state's attorney in the felony division.  In April of 2009 he was admitted to the Capital Litigation Trial Bar with a certification as lead counsel.
