Senators Max Baucus and Charles E. Grassley released a report on Feburary 20, 2010 asking the Food and Drug Administration why it allowed a clinical trial of Avandia to continue after it estimated the drug caused over 80,000 heart attacks between 1999 and 2007.
As reported in the Washington Post, New York Times and various other national publications, the Pharmaceutical giant GlaxoSmithKline knew of possible heart attack risks tied to its controversial diabetes drug Avandia years before evidence of a link became public, according to a U.S. Senate report.
The Wall Street Journal is now reporting that the FDA is recommending Avandia be pulled from the market.
