Helping Everyday Consumers Stand Up and Speak Out
Simmons Hanly Conroy helps everyday people who were hurt when companies choose profits over people’s safety. Many of these people were trying to live healthier lives or manage a chronic condition. They did their due diligence to make informed consumer choices. Yet, they were deceived by the companies responsible for protecting them.
When they turned to our legal team, they weren’t expecting anything. They just wanted someone to listen. Our team not only listened, they showed neighborhoods, like those impacted whose property values were harmed by the Bridgeton Landfill, how to stand up for their rights.
It is our mission to do what we can to help consumers hold big corporations, like Republic Services, accountable for creating dangerous hazardous environments by releasing toxic chemicals carelessly. These kinds of actions can have long-term implications on the safety and well-being of individuals and larger communities, which is why Simmons Hanly Conroy is committed to providing justice to those harmed.

Bridgeton Landfill Settlement
Nearly $7 million | Resolved April 2014
Simmons Hanly Conroy helped secure an approximately $4.7 million settlement from the owners of the Bridgeton Landfill in Bridgeton, Mo., to compensate residents living near the site for their anxiety caused by the noxious odors emanating from the site and to offset corresponding loss to their property values. The settlement received preliminary approval from a federal magistrate judge in April 2014. Settlement payments could be made as early as fall 2014.
The class action lawsuit was filed in March 2013 in the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Missouri on behalf of more than 400 impacted residences in the neighborhoods of Spanish Village Subdivision; Terrisan Reste Mobile Home Park; Carrollton Village Apartment Homes and Condominiums; and homes on Foerster, Taussig and Boenker roads in Bridgeton, Mo.
