Giving Back: Simmons Hanly Conroy and the National Park Trust

Some people are aware of the nearly $20 million Simmons Hanly Conroy has donated to cancer research, as well as its support of mesothelioma organizations like the Meso Applied Research Foundation. But did you know that Simmons also supports other organizations across the country, like the National Park Trust?

nptFor the past few years, Simmons Hanly Conroy has made a financial donation to NPT in honor of Bruce A. Vento, a senator who died of mesothelioma in 2000 at the age of 60. This organization is dedicated to park conservation across the United States, as well as educating young Americans on how to protect, learn from and actively enjoy our country’s parks. Similar to how our lawyers’ mission is to positively impact the lives of mesothelioma victims and their families, NPT’s mission is to positively impact park preservation in communities across America. We are delighted to help them accomplish this.

Aligning with this mission is the NPT’s Bruce F. Vento Public Service Award, which honors the memory of Bruce Vento. Vento was a 12-term member of Congress from Minnesota and former Chair of the Natural Resources Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests, and Public Lands. During his tenure, Congressman Vento passed more park legislation than any other previous NPT chairman.

According to NPT, approximately 83 percent of the organization’s resources were used directly for park preservation and youth education programs in 2013. Such programs included park preservation projects in California that created park experiences for more than 6,000 Buddy Bison students. For many students, it’s their first time ever visiting a park.

In fact, one of the biggest NPT events is the annual Kids to Parks Day, which was held on May 17 this year. More than 447,000 people celebrated Kids to Parks Day through 1,050 park events in 405 cities and towns. The event was a huge national celebration, and Simmons Hanly Conroy was thrilled to support it.

Giving back is important, no matter what the cause might be. Those of us at Simmons Hanly Conroy understand this constant need – and desire – to give back to our community, which is why we will continue to support organizations like the National Park Trust in the future.
