Each senior attorney operates within a small team of several experienced attorneys, legal staff members and registered nurses, which ensures you’ll receive personalized attention while your case progresses.

Your legal team can pursue mesothelioma compensation in several ways:

  • Asbestos Trust Fund Claims: Over $30 billion is estimated to still be available in asbestos trust funds for mesothelioma victims and their families — and you don’t have to step foot in court to get it.
  • Mesothelioma Lawsuits: Filing a lawsuit can secure significant compensation from the companies responsible for your asbestos exposure and illness.
  • Veterans Benefits: Veterans make up 33% of all mesothelioma cases because asbestos was used across all branches of the military. VA benefits can offer victims health care and monthly compensation.

Together, your team can handle every step of the legal process on your behalf, from collecting evidence for your case to filing your claim in time.

Deadlines to Taking Legal Action

Maryland has a unique set of laws called statutes of limitation that restrict how long mesothelioma patients and their family members have to file a mesothelioma lawsuit. This makes it particularly important to contact mesothelioma attorneys in Maryland as soon as possible after your diagnosis.

Mike, mesothelioma warrior

Mike’s Story

Matthew Michael (Mike) Mattmuller moved to Maryland in 2004, where he met Jessica, the love of his life. Just a year after they got married, Mike began to experience what he thought was simply shortness of breath — but at the young age of 29, he was unexpectedly diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Mike and Jessica were shocked, and they reached out to Simmons Hanly Conroy for help. With the compensation they received through legal action, Mike was able to undergo costly treatment that led to incredible progress. In 2016, he and his wife welcomed their daughter into the world.

“Simmons Hanly Conroy helped us out when nobody else would,” said Mike. “They make you feel like you’re in good hands. And they honestly make you feel part of a family.”

Although he far outlived his initial prognosis, Mike lost his battle with mesothelioma a few years later, when he was just 38. He passed away having inspired countless other mesothelioma warriors to remain positive — and having secured his wife and daughter’s financial future.

Ellen at an ADAO conference

Ellen’s Story

Growing up, Ellen was unknowingly exposed to asbestos from her father’s home improvement projects, her uncle’s work and various consumer products. She was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma at just 41 years old.

Since the cancer had spread to both of her lungs, Ellen’s treatment options were limited. Her doctor recommended immunotherapy, but insurance wouldn’t cover it. She turned to our Maryland asbestos lawyers for help.

After securing a mesothelioma settlement and undergoing treatment, Ellen became a long-term survivor and an advocate with the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO).

Pipefitter at work

Norm’s Story

Norm served in the U.S. Army until 1969, when he began working as a pipefitter. For the next decade, he worked around asbestos-containing products, unaware of the health risks they posed.

Nearly 40 years later, Norm was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma. He was forced to retire from his role as a corporate vice president. Sadly, he passed away soon after.

Norm’s family worked with our Maryland mesothelioma lawyers to file an asbestos claim after his death. We were able to seek justice for his loved ones and hold the companies responsible for his illness accountable.

Maryland Mesothelioma Legal Questions

What is an asbestos exposure or mesothelioma lawsuit?

A mesothelioma lawsuit is a type of legal action taken against companies that made or used products containing asbestos.

Since many companies knowingly hid the dangers of asbestos from their employees and consumers, victims may be able to hold asbestos companies accountable and pursue compensation for injuries they suffered as a result of the company’s products.

Who can file a mesothelioma legal claim?

You may be able to file a mesothelioma legal claim if:

  • You were diagnosed with mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease
  • You’re the family member or estate representative of someone with mesothelioma

Even if your loved one has passed away from mesothelioma, you may still be able to pursue compensation on their behalf.

Call (800) 326-8900 now to learn if you may be eligible to file a claim with the help of a mesothelioma lawyer in Maryland. It costs nothing to speak with us.

How long do I have to file a mesothelioma claim in Maryland?

You have only a short window of time after your mesothelioma diagnosis to file an asbestos claim due to statutes of limitations, which are state-specific deadlines on when you can file a lawsuit.

Once these deadlines pass, it’s too late to take legal action for your illness.

Because of this, it’s important to contact us as soon as possible. Our team can listen to what’s going on and let you know if you still have time to take legal action.

How much does a Maryland mesothelioma attorney cost?

At Simmons Hanly Conroy, there are no initial or out-of-pocket costs to work with a Maryland asbestos attorney.

We work on a contingency basis, which means we only get paid if we successfully recover compensation for you.

Reach out to our team now to see if you qualify for compensation — for free.

Will I have to travel to file a mesothelioma claim?

Our Maryland asbestos lawyers will come to you, wherever you may be and whenever it’s convenient for you. We will travel to meet with you in the comfort of your own home or in a location of your choosing.

Though we can’t guarantee you won’t ever have to travel during your case, it’s very unlikely you will need to leave the area you live in to receive compensation.
