Jared Hausmann is a partner at Simmons Hanly Conroy. He focuses his practice on helping individuals and their families who have been affected by mesothelioma, a rare form of cancer caused by asbestos exposure. His practice concentrates on motions, defendant discovery, and appeals.

“I became an attorney to help individuals vindicate their rights,” said Jared. “In addition to providing compensation to injured victims, the American tort system provides a powerful check on corporate power by holding companies accountable for the harm caused by their negligence and intentional misconduct.”

Representative Cases

Jared and the appellate team have a proven track record of ensuring that asbestos verdicts are affirmed on appeal, earning him recognition as an influential appellate advocate. In 2024, the team won an appeal of a $15 million verdict against a joint compound manufacturer on behalf of the family of a New York and New Jersey construction worker who passed away from mesothelioma. The appeal was one of the first decided under New York’s Nemeth standard for causation in toxic tort cases.

Jared also has proven success at presenting legal arguments at the trial court level. In 2022, he successfully briefed and argued in opposition to a defendant’s post-trial motion to set aside a $3.8 million verdict secured on behalf of the family of a maintenance worker at a plastics company in Pennsylvania. The case involved a number of complex legal issues, including issues regarding statutory interpretation and workers’ compensation exclusivity.

Experience & Academic Honors

Before joining the firm, Jared clerked for the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit, where he reviewed district court records, conducted legal research, drafted opinions, and more. He has also published several law review articles addressing topics such as financial reform, jurisprudence, and constitutional law.

Jared earned his J.D. from St. Louis University School of Law where he graduated magna cum laude. While in law school, Jared served as a judicial intern for both the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Missouri and the Illinois Third Judicial Circuit. He also served as Articles Editor for the Saint Louis University Law Journal and competed in the National Moot Court Competition.

Jared received his B.A. in political science from Eastern Illinois University. While at EIU, Jared worked as a sportscaster for the school’s softball and volleyball teams.

When not practicing law, Jared is involved with Special Olympics Illinois. In 2015, he was nominated as “Volunteer of the Year” for his work with the nonprofit.

Jared is licensed to practice in Illinois, Louisiana, and Missouri.
