Tepezza® Lawsuit

Tepezza® (or teprotumumab) is a thyroid eye disease (TED) medication administered in multiple rounds of intravenous (IV) infusions. Unfortunately, the risk of hearing loss and related problems like tinnitus (ringing in the ears) may be much higher than past trials have indicated.

If you or a loved one were given Tepezza and suffered from hearing issues afterward, Simmons Hanly Conroy may be able to pursue compensation on your behalf from a Tepezza lawsuit.

What Is Tepezza Used for?

Tepezza (teprotumumab) is a medication for thyroid eye disease (TED). TED is a relatively rare autoimmune disorder that affects the tissue around the eye, causing inflammation and affecting vision.

About 50% of people with Graves’ disease will develop TED, which is why it’s also known as Graves’ eye disease.

Symptoms of TED include:

  • Bulging eyes
  • Difficulty fully closing eyes
  • Double vision
  • Dry eyes
  • Pain
  • Red or watery eyes
  • Vision loss

To help alleviate these symptoms, Tepezza is administered to TED patients once every three weeks for a total of eight intravenous (IV) infusions.

Unfortunately, the risk of hearing problems associated with Tepezza may be much greater than previously believed, according to new studies.

New Studies Reveal Greater Risk of Tepezza and Hearing Loss

In January 2020, Tepezza was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and remains the only drug approved for TED.

Two clinical trials were performed to ensure the drug’s safety before it received FDA approval. In both trials, only 10% of patients reported hearing-related side effects. This risk may actually be far greater, however.

New studies have found that as high as 65% of those treated with Tepezza experienced hearing loss or damage afterward.

Thousands across the country could be at risk of suffering hearing damage as a result of receiving Tepezza infusions.

Hearing-Related Tepezza Side Effects

Hearing side effects caused by Tepezza may include:

  • Autophony: When your own voice sounds unusually loud
  • Deafness: Partial or total loss of hearing
  • Eustachian tube disorder: When the tubes that run between the middle ear and back of the nose and throat stay open, instead of only opening occasionally to regulate air pressure near the eardrum
  • Hyperacusis: A disorder that affects the perception of sound, causing patients to become overly sensitive to a range of noises
  • Hypoacusis: A partial or total loss of hearing acuity or clarity, which affects how well someone hears
  • New or worsening sensorineural hearing loss: Hearing loss caused by damaged hair cells in the inner ear
  • Tinnitus: Ringing in the ears

Did you experience any of these Tepezza side effects after treatment? Contact Simmons Hanly Conroy now. You may be eligible to file a Tepezza lawsuit and pursue compensation.
