Mary Jane’s Story

Her story begins in 2003, when she was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma, a cancer of the lining of the abdomen. For a year, Mary Jane struggled to understand her symptoms of a bloating abdomen and episodes of profuse sweating. Then, during a gall bladder surgery, the doctors found out she had mesothelioma.

She and her family were shocked to learn of her diagnosis, and immediately took action to combat the disease. They contacted the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation for help finding a specialist who could treat Mary Jane’s unique case. Ultimately, a few specialists in New York helped Mary Jane fight her peritoneal mesothelioma through chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.

When she was first diagnosed, and even when she started treating her disease, filing a mesothelioma lawsuit against asbestos companies was the last thing on Mary Jane’s mind. Yet, she soon learned why fighting for compensation was important and became a client of Simmons Hanly Conroy, a national mesothelioma law firm.

Since becoming cancer free, Mary Jane Williams shares her story and acts as an advocate for mesothelioma patients across the country.
