WASHINGTON – Simmons Hanly Conroy, a national complex litigation firm and one of the country’s leading mesothelioma law firms, is pleased to announce that it has renewed its platinum $100,000 sponsorship of the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization and its “Where Knowledge and Action Unite” 11th annual International Asbestos Awareness Conference to take place this weekend in Washington, D.C. The firm is the longest consecutive sponsor of the conference.

The 11th annual International Asbestos Awareness Conference, organized by ADAO, will take place this Friday through Sunday in Washington, D.C. at the Crystal Gateway Marriott. More than 35 experts and asbestos victims from ten countries will present the latest advancement in disease prevention, global advocacy and treatment options for mesothelioma and other asbestos-caused diseases.
Asbestos exposure can cause mesothelioma, lung, gastrointestinal, laryngeal and ovarian cancers, and other asbestos-related diseases like asbestosis and pleural plaques. The World Health Organization estimates that 107,000 workers around the world will die every year of an asbestos-related disease. Despite the widely accepted dangers of asbestos exposure, the United States remains one of the few countries that have failed to fully ban the toxic substance.
“I’ve seen firsthand the devastating effects that a mesothelioma diagnosis has on a person and their family. What’s unfair is that these are preventable diseases, but asbestos companies put profits over people and used it anyway, knowing the dangers,” said Perry Browder, Simmons Hanly Conroy Shareholder and Chair of the Asbestos Department. “ADAO’s work to prevent and eliminate asbestos-related diseases is critical. The firm has a long-standing commitment to supporting those impacted by asbestos-related diseases, Browder said. Since 1999, the firm has donated over $20 million to cancer research, including millions of dollars to mesothelioma research institutions. This is the third year the firm has been a platinum sponsor of ADAO and its asbestos awareness conference.
The conference begins Friday with a tour of Washington, D.C. for patients and their families. Sessions begin Saturday morning and last throughout the day. Topics include personal stories by asbestos victims, medical updates on mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases from U.S. and international researchers, and sessions on prevention and awareness.
The day will end with an Awards and Recognition Dinner to honor advocates of asbestos victims, including firm client and ADAO volunteer Ellen Patton. The final conference event on Sunday morning is the Unity and Remembrance Brunch in memory of those who have passed away from asbestos-related diseases.
