In the News: Simmons Hanly Conroy Files Class Action Lawsuit against Transportation Company Uber

Simmons Hanly Conroy has filed a class action lawsuit against transportation company Uber for placing telephone calls in violation of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act (TCPA) and New York’s anti-robocalling statute.

The case alleges that Uber, a transportation service which allows consumers to submit a ride request to drivers who use their own cars, placed pre-recorded robocalls to customers throughout the New York metropolitan area. The company’s recorded messages were used as advertising and to encourage locals to oppose an initiative proposed by the city council, which would restrict the company’s growth in the area.

Those involved in the lawsuit seek statutory damages for Uber’s violation of the New York statute and the TCPA, as well as an order prohibiting the company from placing these calls in the future.
