Filing Rideshare Assault Lawsuits

According to court documents from 2025, Uber received a total of 400,181 reports of sexual assault or misconduct from 2017 to 2021. This figure is significantly higher than what Uber had previously disclosed in their public safety reports.

Similarly, Lyft reported over 2,650 sexual assaults from 2020 to 2022, but the true number could be far higher.

Rideshare assault lawsuits have been filed across the country alleging companies like Uber and Lyft failed to:

  • Adequately screen drivers
  • Implement safety design changes to their apps
  • Properly respond to passenger complaints
  • Remove drivers who had sexually assaulted passengers

In February 2026, a federal jury in Arizona ordered Uber to pay $8.5 million to a woman who was sexually abused as a passenger in the in first bellwether case to reach trial in the federal MDL involving sexual assault claims against Uber Technologies, Inc.
