Miles for Meso Race to Take Place September 27, 2014

Mark your calendars for the Miles for Meso 5K Race & 2K Fun Run/Walk. Early registration is now open for the race taking place in Alton, Ill.

MFM_runners_2013This year’s race will begin at 9 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 27, at the Simmons Hanly Conroy Alton office at One Court Street. The event is presented by the firm and coordinated by the Metro TriClub. All proceeds will benefit the Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization.

Last year, the Alton Miles for Meso race raised $25,000, which was donated to the Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (see image.) Miles for Meso races have been held in Illinois, Virginia, Washington, Ohio, New York, Indiana and Florida. Not only is the race a worthy cause for mesothelioma awareness and research, it’s also a fun, active, educational event for people of all ages and athletic abilities.

The Alton race is considered the flagship event for Miles for Meso. Since 2009, the Alton race has raised more than $125,000 for mesothelioma research. Combined, all Miles for Meso races have raised nearly $400,000 for mesothelioma research.

Miles for Meso races not only raise essential funds for mesothelioma research, they also promote awareness of the deadly cancer. Mesothelioma is one of the lowest-funded cancers by the National Cancer Institute, yet more than 3,000 Americans are diagnosed with it every year. Raising funds and awareness for mesothelioma through events like Miles for Meso aid in the efforts to find a cure for this terminal disease.
