Asbestos Exposure and Mesothelioma in Missouri

During the 20th century, more than 1 million U.S. workers were exposed to asbestos, a dangerous mineral that can cause the cancer mesothelioma, and many face serious health risks to this day.

Quick Facts About Asbestos

  • Asbestos is a natural mineral that is durable and resistant to heat
  • Over 3,000 household and industrial products contained asbestos, including roofing shingles, talcum powder, automobile brakes, insulation, boilers, and more
  • Multiple industries, like manufacturing, steel working, and shipbuilding, used asbestos
  • Inhaling or ingesting asbestos fibers can cause mesothelioma to develop 10-50 years after initial exposure
  • Secondary exposure occurs when asbestos is brought home on a worker’s clothes, skin, or hair, exposing others indirectly

Some job sites, homes, and older buildings in Missouri may still contain asbestos, putting workers and residents at risk of exposure even today.

What If I Don’t Know How I Was Exposed?

Our knowledgeable Missouri mesothelioma attorneys have helped many past clients identify where they were exposed to asbestos and which companies may be responsible.

Over the past two decades, we’ve gathered evidence on thousands of Missouri job sites where asbestos was used. It’s possible we’ve already represented someone who worked at the same spot as you.

Joyce, wife of John Larson, a Simmons Hanly Conroy client

John’s Story

John grew up in Missouri, where he was unknowingly exposed to asbestos as a child through his father’s work clothes. As an adult, his exposure continued on job sites as a surveyor, while remodeling his home, and while working on classic cars.

John and his wife Joyce didn’t know about the dangers of asbestos, and they were shocked when he was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma.

The couple turned to our Missouri asbestos lawyers for help filing a lawsuit against the manufacturers responsible for John’s exposure.

“Simmons Hanly Conroy was amazing through the whole process,” Joyce said. “My daughter was 12 when her dad died. It was a very emotional and stressful time, but the firm was always very supportive.”

Stephanie’s Story

When Stephanie was a toddler, her father worked for a subcontractor of the company Aerojet. His job included cutting rocket motor parts to size.

Some of these parts, however, contained microscopic asbestos fibers, which came home from work with him on his clothing.

Decades later, at the age of 42, Stephanie passed away from mesothelioma due to secondhand asbestos exposure that occurred when she was barely old enough to walk.

After Stephanie’s family filed a lawsuit against Aerojet, the company denied ever having used asbestos in their rockets and missiles — something our Missouri mesothelioma lawyers were able to prove was a lie.

Ernie Conry, a Simmons Hanly Conroy client

Ernie’s Story

Ernie, a St. Louis resident, was exposed to asbestos throughout his life — though most notably during his career as an auto mechanic.

He experienced symptoms for nearly eight years and underwent multiple tests before doctors diagnosed him with pleural mesothelioma. After undergoing chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, Ernie passed away.

He is remembered for his wonderfully positive attitude during difficult times. Ernie showed others just how important optimism is in the fight against mesothelioma.

By hiring Simmons Hanly Conroy, Ernie was able to secure his family’s financial future before his passing.

Craig’s Story

Shelly’s husband Craig was diagnosed with peritoneal mesothelioma at just 43 years old. For the next 10 years, he bravely fought against this illness with Shelly and their daughter by his side.

The couple regularly traveled from Missouri to New York for Craig’s mesothelioma treatments.

“Our first priority was getting Craig well,” said Shelly.

With Craig unable to work and medical bills piling up, Shelly began to worry about their daughter’s financial future. By working with our Missouri mesothelioma attorneys, the couple was able to secure significant compensation and focus on Craig’s health.

Mesothelioma Attorney in Missouri FAQs

What is a Missouri mesothelioma lawsuit?

Missouri mesothelioma lawsuits are a type of product liability claim against the companies that made or used the asbestos products a mesothelioma patient was exposed to.

Since many companies knowingly hid the dangers of asbestos from their employees and consumers, victims may be able to hold asbestos companies accountable and pursue compensation for injuries they suffered as a result of the companies’ products.
