St. Louis Business Journal Ranks Simmons Hanly Conroy Among Largest Law Firms for 6th Consecutive Year

List Positions Simmons Hanly Conroy as Largest Plaintiffs’ Law Firm in St. Louis

ST. LOUIS (Feb. 2, 2016) – Simmons Hanly Conroy LLC, a law firm known nationally for handling asbestos, mass tort and complex litigation cases, has been ranked among the largest law firms in the St. Louis metropolitan area by the St. Louis Business Journal for the sixth consecutive year.

The firm ranked 13th out of nearly 100 law firms polled. The business journal’s “Largest Law Firm List” positions Simmons Hanly Conroy as the largest firm representing plaintiffs in the St. Louis area. The list was published in the Jan. 29th edition of the publication.

Simmons Hanly Conroy employs approximately 50 attorneys in the St. Louis area who work out of the firm’s national headquarters in Alton, Illinois and the St. Louis office in Clayton, Missouri. Nationwide, the firm employs approximately 70 attorneys, including 32 shareholders and 34 associates, with offices in Chicago, New York City, San Francisco and Los Angeles, California.

Founded in 1999 by John Simmons, the firm developed a national reputation for handling toxic exposure cases by securing a $250 million verdict against U.S. Steel, the largest single verdict in the history of asbestos litigation.

“Not many firms have the legal resources dedicated to asbestos and mesothelioma litigation that we do,” Simmons said. “But regardless of our size, our top priority has always been to give each client an unparalleled level of personal attention. We care a lot about the families we represent.”

Today, the firm remains a leader in asbestos and mesothelioma litigation but has also developed an experienced complex litigation practice with focuses on dangerous drugs and medical devices, environmental litigation and other consumer safety related mass torts.

Firm attorneys have been named to multiple leadership positions in federal multidistrict litigations (MDL), including the class action against seed manufacturer Syngenta on behalf of American corn farmers over its failure to obtain import approval from China for its MIR 162 genetically modified corn. In January, Shareholder Jayne Conroy was appointed to the Plaintiffs’ Steering Committee (PSC) for the pending MDL against Volkswagen A.G. over its emissions scandal.

In 2015 and 2014, the firm ranked 12th on the list. The first two years on the list, 2011 and 2012, Simmons Hanly Conroy was 13th. According to the publication, surveys are sent to the largest firms in the area to create the list each year. The top 74 firms were listed this year.

“The List” is a weekly feature released by the St. Louis Business Journal intended to deliver a detailed picture of the corporate, professional and industrial segments of St. Louis. All lists are later reprinted and combined in the publication’s annual Book of Lists.
