Each senior attorney operates within a small team of several experienced attorneys, legal staff members, and registered nurses, which ensures you’ll receive personalized attention while your case progresses.

Your legal team can pursue mesothelioma compensation in several ways:

  • Asbestos Trust Fund Claims: Over $30 billion is estimated to still be available in asbestos trust funds for mesothelioma victims and their families — and you don’t have to step foot in court to get it.
  • Mesothelioma Lawsuits: Filing a lawsuit can secure significant compensation from the companies responsible for your asbestos exposure and illness.
  • Veterans Benefits: Veterans make up 33% of all mesothelioma cases because asbestos was used across all branches of the military. VA benefits can offer victims health care and monthly compensation.

Together, your team can handle every step of the legal process on your behalf, from collecting evidence for your case to filing your claim in time.

Deadline to File an Asbestos Lawsuit in Ohio

State laws called statutes of limitation restrict how long mesothelioma patients and their family members have to file a lawsuit. In Ohio, the mesothelioma statute of limitations is 2 years after your diagnosis or the death of a loved one.

It’s important to contact a mesothelioma lawyer in Ohio as soon as possible, so you don’t miss your chance to take action.

Asbestos Exposure and Mesothelioma in Ohio

During the 20th century, more than 1 million U.S. workers were exposed to asbestos, a dangerous mineral that can cause the cancer mesothelioma, and many face serious health risks to this day.

Quick Facts About Asbestos

  • Asbestos is a natural mineral that is durable and resistant to heat
  • Over 3,000 household and industrial products contained asbestos, including roofing shingles, talcum powder, automobile brakes, insulation, boilers, and more
  • Multiple industries, like manufacturing, steel working, and shipbuilding, used asbestos
  • Inhaling or ingesting asbestos fibers can cause mesothelioma to develop 10-50 years after initial exposure
  • Secondary exposure occurs when asbestos is brought home on a worker’s clothes, skin, or hair, exposing others indirectly

Some job sites, homes, and older buildings in Ohio may still contain asbestos, putting workers and residents at risk of exposure even today.

What If I Don’t Know How I Was Exposed?

Our knowledgeable Ohio mesothelioma attorneys have helped many past clients identify where they were exposed to asbestos and which companies may be responsible.

Over the past two decades, we’ve gathered evidence on thousands of Ohio job sites where asbestos was used. It’s possible we’ve already represented someone who worked at the same spot as you.

Mary Jane, a Simmons Hanly Conroy patient

Mary Jane’s Story

For a year, Mary Jane Williams struggled to understand her symptoms of a bloated abdomen and episodes of profuse sweating. Then, during a gallbladder surgery, the doctors found out she had peritoneal mesothelioma.

When Mary Jane was first diagnosed with mesothelioma and started undergoing treatment, filing a lawsuit against asbestos companies was the last thing on her mind. However, her doctor recommended she find an attorney, and Mary Jane soon became a client of Simmons Hanly Conroy.

“At first you’re thinking you don’t want to do it. Why would I want to sue these companies? But all I can say is get mad, because most of them knew asbestos caused cancer,” Mary Jane said. “You need the compensation for your treatments, you need it for your transportation — insurance doesn’t pay for everything.”

Mike Nattmuller, a Simmons Hanly Conroy client

Mike’s Story

When he was just 29 years old, civil engineer and Ohio native Mike Mattmuller was tragically diagnosed with mesothelioma.

Mike embodied the term “mesothelioma warrior,” fighting against his disease for nearly a decade so he could spend more time with his wife and daughter. Mike chose to file a lawsuit so he could afford to travel out of state and receive specialized treatments.

“I can’t say enough good things about Simmons Hanly Conroy,” Mike shared. “They make you feel like you’re in good hands. And they honestly make you feel part of a family.”

Mike inspired countless other mesothelioma warriors to keep a positive attitude and spread awareness about the dangers of asbestos exposure, but the biggest reminder he leaves behind is to cherish every moment with loved ones.

Bruce, a Simmons Hanly Conroy client

Bruce’s Story

Before becoming a beloved high school English teacher, Ohio native Bruce Waite worked as a construction worker and a gas station attendant. At both jobs, he came into contact with asbestos-containing products, but he was never warned about the dangers.

After experiencing breathing trouble while running, Bruce was diagnosed with pleural mesothelioma. With his wife Nancy and his daughter Jill by his side, Bruce continued to run every day, as he had for over 30 years.

“Simmons Hanly Conroy fought for us and beside us during the darkest time in our lives,” Bruce’s daughter Jill said. “They brought hope to my dad, who found peace in the knowledge that after he left us, Mom and I would not truly be alone.”

Bruce also fought back against mesothelioma and the companies responsible for his illness by working with Simmons Hanly Conroy to file a mesothelioma lawsuit.

Mesothelioma Attorney in Ohio FAQs

What is an Ohio mesothelioma lawsuit?

Ohio mesothelioma lawsuits are a type of product liability claim against the companies that made or used the asbestos products a mesothelioma patient was exposed to.

Since many companies knowingly hid the dangers of asbestos from their employees and consumers, victims may be able to hold asbestos companies accountable and pursue compensation for injuries they suffered as a result of the companies’ products.

Contact us now to see if you may be able to seek compensation from an Ohio mesothelioma lawsuit.

Can you sue for asbestos exposure and mesothelioma in Ohio?

Patients and their loved ones may be able to pursue a mesothelioma claim with the help of our experienced Ohio asbestos attorneys.

You may be able to file a mesothelioma lawsuit in Ohio if you:

  • Were diagnosed with mesothelioma or another asbestos-related disease
  • Are the family member or estate representative of someone with mesothelioma

Even if your loved one has passed away, you may still be able to seek compensation on their behalf by filing a mesothelioma claim after their death.

What is the mesothelioma statute of limitations in Ohio?

Unfortunately, asbestos exposure victims only have a short window of time after their mesothelioma diagnosis to file a claim due to statutes of limitations, which are state-specific deadlines on when you can file a lawsuit.

In Ohio, you only have 2 years after your diagnosis or the death of a loved one to file a mesothelioma claim. Once these deadlines pass, it’s too late to take legal action for your illness.

Contact us as soon as possible. Our team can listen to what’s going on and let you know if you still have time to take legal action — even if you think the deadline may have already passed.

What can an asbestos attorney in Ohio do for you?

  • Provide ongoing support to you and your family while staying available via phone and text
  • Travel to meet with you on your terms, whenever and wherever it’s convenient for you
